It has a timing belt.

you could read your owners manual….thats the book that you see in the glove box that no one ever bothers to read. Or simply call your local Honda dealer and ask for the parts dept then give them your vin# to your car and ask Belt or Chain they will tell in 2 mins…

good luck

Almost every Honda car (including yours) runs off a belt. And if that belt breaks, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth and bending of valves.

The J30A4 interference engine has a timing belt.

2000 honda accord brakes and rotors?

Posted by admin on Thursday Apr 5, 2012 Under Education

What is the cost to replace brakes and rotors

$220 for pair of front slotted rotors on eBay for 1998 accord, $250 for rear. Was quoted $600 to $1200 for actual brake place to replace rear rotors, pads and bearings.

Cheapest option to consider first is getting your current disc rotors machined and replace pads yourself if up to the challenge.

No expert here, just searching for same info for my Honda and don’t have anything left to machine on mine and so far eBay have had cheapest options. Just bought the wheel bearings Inc. Postage from USA for $100. It was cheaper than what we could find here in Aus.

Cheers
Louisa

I have a 1985 Honda Shadow 500 Fan question?

Posted by admin on Thursday Apr 5, 2012 Under Education

Does the fan click on at a hot temperture??? Should the gaugeneedle stay in the middle ??? Fan seems not to come on. What should I check ???

the fan should come on when it reaches a hot temperature, but if you are trying to check it while just letting it idle, it might not go on at all, the best way to test it would be to find a nice incline and go up in second gear, it will give the engine time to rev up and get hot but get little air flow, forcing the fan to come on.If the fan does not turn on and the engine goes to hot, shut it down and wait for it to cool because the fan dosen’t work.

I have a 1985 Honda Shadow 500 Clutch question.?

Posted by admin on Thursday Apr 5, 2012 Under Education

How do you know when the clutch is going bad ??? I pull the clutch in when I shift but sometimes it wont shift ??? Should something need to be tightened???To shift better ???

there are two good ways to check a clutch depending on whether its hydro or not. see where the clutch grabs. closer it is to the top the more worn it is. or you can put it in 5th gear at a dead stop and drop the clutch. if it stalls its good if the car keeps runnin it needs replaced.

1990 Honda Civic sedan 190,000 miles. When Should i Change the transmission fluid or oil? Every 6 months?

Depends on how much you drive.
I always recommend at least once a year. If you do pass 30k miles each year then it should be changed more often.

Your transmission is old and has seen a lot of miles, it needs the extra care.
1. Never change it if it is dark brown or black – the transmission is shot and needs replacing
2. Use Honda ATF ONLY.
3. Use a magnetic drain plug
4. Never flush a Honda transmission with that many miles and that age.

Well which is it fluid or oil? Automatics have fluid, manuals have oil. For a manual I believe its every two years or every 30,000 miles, which ever comes first. I cant say for sure on an automatic but I would imagine its the same or close.

transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles
